This cardigan has two things going for it. First, it’s deceptively easy to make: using only the most elementary crochet stitches, it’s worked in one piece from the right side across to the left and then stitched up each side with two simple seams, leaving armholes.

Second, the vertical texture is slimming. And if you use a self-striping yarn, like I did, it will have slimming vertical stripes of color as well!

I made the cardigan shown using Caron Big Cakes in the colorway Mint Fudge, and  I plan to wear it on St. Patrick’s Day! It looks great worn over a long-sleeved top and skinny jeans with boots.

The pattern was originally written for women’s size L/XL and is approximately knee length on a woman who’s 5’7”, but it also includes detailed instructions for how to adjust both size and length, so that you can make this cardigan in any size you like, including for children.

There are also detailed instructions for making a swatch so you can determine if a different size hook will work better with your personal gauge or the yarn you choose, as well as photos and diagrams for each step.

In fact, it was the enormous amount of time and effort I put into the sizing instructions that made me decide to sell this crochet pattern, instead of giving it away for free as I have with my previous patterns.
